INDUSTRIAL VISIT CANON OPTO MALAYSIA





27 NOVEMEMBER 2012, as early as 7.30 am all students of Electronic System Engineering under faculty of Malaysian Japan International institute of Technology (MJIIT) first gather at Kolej Siswa Jaya (KSJ) before moving to Canon Opto Malaysia. All of us were very excited having our first experience visiting a factory officially. Unfortunately, we arrive 40 minutes late from the schedule makes our program a little bit compact and quite rush since we need to leave during noon.



9.40 am
We arrive at Canon Opto Malaysia. After a short greeting by Canon’s officer all of the student having a short photography session, we can see smiles everywhere. The  environment was very clean, besides  it have beautiful landscape with trees everywhere makes it doesn’t look really like a factory.





After that we were given a short brief about safety before , when and after entering canon factory by their safety officer. Taking picture in the factory is prohibited. Canon is one of Japanese factory that very concern about the environment, they always say about the policy of canon which is to share environmental awareness with public. Canon factory was very famous with their water power plant which they use to increase the water quality for cleaning the lens, instead they also treat the waste water before it was released. Plus, they also have a building that treat all the dangerous waste very well to prevent effect on the environment for example they have machines to control and manage dangerous nitrogen gas by neutralising it.


Then, we visit the manufacturing factory where they assemble the latest digital camera product and also lens for DSLR camera. We were divided into 3 groups. Mr. Che Kok Hong,  lens assembly manager, division 4 was the person incharge to guide us touring the factory. Firstly, before entering the factory we will go through shower room to clean our body from outside dust that stick to our shirt.

Almost 98 percent of the worker is women, they work very hard assembling the camera component since everyday management already set a production target. They were divided for some department which is receiving, assembling, testing, and packaging. In Canon Opto Malaysia, they were producing the latest lens and provide it to dealer which were L240 and L114/2.








EXAMPLE OF LENS


Penta prism is used in SLR (Single Lens Reflex) Camera, in order to capture an accurate and precise reflection on the sensor or film. The production of Penta Prism is similar to the lens making process for example rough grinding, smoothing, polishing, coating and cementing.

Canon uses USM (Ultrasonic Motors) technology. EF lenses equipped with USM drives have fast, silent and precise autofocus operations, and consume less power compared to other AF drive motors.

Canon Opto (Malaysia) Sdn.Bhd, a manufacturing facility for cameras and optical lenses was incorporated in Malaysia as part of the global growth of the Canon group based on Canon’s corporate philosophy  “kyosei”.


“Kyosei” means aspiring to a society in which all people, regardless of race, religion, or culture, harmoniously live and work together for the common good into the future.


After finish visiting the manufacturing factory, all of us gather in the hall for final speech between both MJIIT representative and Canon Opto Malaysia officer. Canon opto Malaysia had give us a cute mug for each student and it was blessing for us. Thank  you canon, i would consider to buy a canon DSLR camera soon. Before going back to hostel, we took some picture for this valuable memory being able to visit Canon factory. It was a memorable and unforgettable experience for me myself.

Nowadays, human evolving in every part of life making their life better and easier, during 90th century there was nothing much human can do, everything is limited and non-portable, hard to find and very expensive. However, electronic system is the most dominant field that change human life style and being key role in human daily life. Most of the things exist in human world in this century will have better system, it can operate by itself without waiting for human command, very protective, friendly for human use and secure. We also can see drastic evolution of device used today for example    cellphones, laptops, tablets, etc.

FIELDS OF IMAGING INDUSTRY



   
THERMAL IMAGING
A special lens focuses the infrared light emitted by all of the objects in view.
The focused light is scanned by a phased array of infrared-detector elements. The detector elements create a very detailed temperature pattern called a thermogram. It only takes about one-thirtieth of a second for the detector array to obtain the temperature information to make the thermogram. This information is obtained from several thousand points in the field of view of the detector array.
The thermogram created by the detector elements is translated into electric impulses.

The impulses are sent to a signal-processing unit, a circuit board with a dedicated chip that translates the information from the elements into data for the display.
The signal-processing unit sends the information to the display, where it appears as various colors depending on the intensity of the infrared emission. The combination of all the impulses from all of the elements creates the image.

Infrared Imaging in Medicine

The principle on which Infrared Imaging works is very simple. As the temperature increases, the amount of radiation emitted by an object increases. This imaging helps us to see the variations in temperature. Warm areas appear prominent against cooler backgrounds. Generally, any disease in human body is accompanied by inflammation which is actually the protective mechanism of the body. During inflammation vascular increases in the affected area and this in turn leads to increase in temperature. The increased temperature is utilized by Infrared Imaging for identifying the disturbance in the normal physiological process.


Thermal Imaging and the Military
Range phenomenology is the use of thermal imaging to study and help solve complex engineering problems in the "military range" community.
Today’s infrared cameras are ideal for these applications. They offer the high performance and accuracy demanded for range phenomenology, along with a variety of modular components and advanced software that assist with many diverse applications such as:

CANON MALAYSIA COME TO MJIIT





It was a fine and bright morning when we met with the speaker Mr. Mohamad Azlan Bin Amran, Senior manager, Administration  Centre, Canon opto Malaysia. His introduction was stunning, he starts by introducing himself and of course about basic of Canon philosophy  which is "kyosei" which means "living together" .He explain briefly about production of spherical lens, Penta Prism and camera at Canon opto Malaysia factory. The momentum of his speech does not goes low during the whole 2 hours, he always making up some jokes especially about relationship between man and women. Canon became the new trademark of Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory. Canon has such meanings as "standard for judgement" which was most appropriate for the company striving for precision as its motto. The steps of building a new camera was not easy as we thinks, it involve hundred of designer, engineer from various field, development department and thousand of people in mass production. the were all design with variety specification to tackle various age of customer from specific group for example for traveler and model photographer.

On top of that, the every model release must be very economic, environmental friendly, affordable for the customer, and delivery of product must go out very well. By following all this specification, Canon opto product can always maintain the quality and make customer happy. Taking picture does give a lot of benefit to human being, it bring memories of the past, making people smile, full fill mens time beneficially, build up jobs and human skills.Last but not least, since Mr. Azlan have spent his time studying in Japan and graduate from one of university in Tokyo, he share some of Japanese culture that always practically use in canon factory all over the world. it was "HORENSOU" and "San-Gen".
